Cabair Modular Flight Training Offer

News for MAY 2008
Cabair Modular which has it's headquarters at the European Pilot Training Academy at Bournemouth is offering free aircraft hire to those Cabair Modular students unfortunate enough not to pass their CPL Skills Test first time. While we are totally confident in the quality of our training and expect you to pass first time with flying colours, we appreciate some may have a retake or partial.

Should this be the case, we will not charge you aircraft hire for that first (and hopefully last) retake or partial.

Furthermore, should you pass your CPL Skills Test first time - as we hope you do - we will happily roll the offer over to your IR.

So, provided to do your CPL with us and pass first time, we will offer the same terms for your IR: if you don't pass first time and need a retake or partial, we cover the cost of the aircraft hire for the first retake/partial.

This offer is open to students at both EPTA Bournemouth and Wycombe Air Centre, and is in addition to any other discount schemes which may be inforce at eiother of these training centres - so book up your CPLs now!

New Helicopter Simulator for Cabair College of Air Training (CCAT) at Cranfield

News for MAY 2008
In the Summer of 2008 CCAT is taking delivery of a new B206 FNPT II (JAA) Helicopter Simulator. The Sim will replicate both the Bell 206 and AS 355 types.

This new addition to CCAT's ever increasing fleet of synthetic training devices will feature in both the CPL(H) and IR(H) courses which are currently offered on a Modular or fully Integrated basis.

It is a professional training simulator with a complete cockpit enclosure representative of the model Bell 206 dimensions.

New Helicopter Simulator for CCAT

The cockpit provides realistic flight controls for the pilot and co-pilot positions that closely replicate those in the actual aircraft. The system provides realistic instrumentation, switches, fuses and knobs representative of the aircraft instrument panel, a visual 170°x75° FOV out-of-cockpit display for simulated flight manoeuvres, and a sound system for representative helicopter sounds. The trainer configuration supports the conduct of ground start, run-up, and shutdown procedures, to include ground emergencies. The main feature however is the devices capability to support in flight manoeuvres in VFR and IFR conditions as well as flight emergency procedure training, along with all FNPT II requirements and much more.

Arrival of the new sim should coincide with CCAT moving to brand new premises located along side the airfield. This new Centre will house the administration and simulators, and omce up and running an open day is planned. Watch this space for latest details.

AIRLINE PILOT SHORTAGE: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

News for FEB 2008
For those of you interested in becoming a commercial pilot, you know that it can be an expensive business to train. Anywhere between £45-80K and that includes study, exams and then a number of hours of basic flying. Worse still, since 9/11, when the airline business and consequently pilot recruitment slumped, wannabe commercial pilots – rather than the airlines – now have to fork out for the experience of actual flying big passenger aircraft. ’s predictions of a shortfall are way too low.

Airliner
Your airlines need you - now!

Says BBCworld's fast track

Here’s how the training industry’s own research foresees pilot demand in the next twenty years. Take a look at the Middle East and South East Asia and you’ll see exactly where the main areas of demand will be. Chinese airlines for example are looking to spend 180 billion dollars on thousands of new passenger aircraft in the next two decades and 100 new airports are expected to be built there in the next five years alone.

60 years behind to be precise, according to IATA. They say training has to be updated and standardised across the world in order to ease the flow of professional pilots around the world. But their favoured new training system – called multi crew pilot licensing has its critics. There is more emphasis on using flight simulators and less on actual flight experience. Some pilots feel there needs to be more of a reality check here.

The bottom line is that there is no substitute for actual flying, say the professionals, even if it’s in planes that you are unlikely to fly again as a commercial pilot. But the modernisers say piloting today is as much about managing and understanding computer systems as actually taking the wheel and by using cost effective simulator systems the pool of new pilots will be increased.

Whatever the theoretical arguments about instruction, this issue will ultimately be fixed. In the meantime, never has it been such a good time to train. Your chances of securing that dream job are higher than they have ever been, making any borrowing of funding for training less of a risk. For the full article about the pilot shortage visit here.

TOP GUN FOR PRINCE WILLIAM

News for JAN 2008
Prince William swapped the turret of a tank for the cockpit of an aeroplane as he began an intensive course on learning to fly in the Royal Air Force.

Said to be the fulfilment of a long-held ambition for the prince, the four-month stint will also provide a taste of life as a "top gun" in the RAF in preparation for his future role as head of the Armed Forces.

The prince, who is following in the footsteps of his father, a qualified pilot, will begin training in a propeller-powered Grob Tutor. But, by the end of his training, he could take control of a Eurofighter Typhoon, Britain's most advanced jet.

In between he will fly transporters, Harrier jump jets, Tornado bombers and helicopters on the course, which is specially designed for him and even has its own codename - Operation Golden Kestrel. Read the full story in the Telegraph here.

SPONSORED FI PROGRAMMES CONTINUE IN 2008

News for JAN 2008
Cabair continue their concerted recruitment drive to bring in new flight instructors to work in their seven PPL schools located around the London Orbital. In reaction to a gradual drain of instructors to the airlines, last year Cabair introduced a range of packages has been created aimed at CPL holders who do not hold an FI rating, and is intent on securing full-time employment at a Cabair Flying School. This programme is now extended to 2008.

The Programmes can include a range of options, such as a fixed monthly salary with a target number of flying hours per annum, the FIC, an Instrument Rating, an MCC and a Jet Orientation Course.

Cabair may contribute up to £15,000 towards the costs of the training depending on the pilot’s commitment to remain employed as a Cabair Instructor.

For those already with an IR, Cabair will provide 100% sponsorship for a programme which includes the FIC, glass cockpit conversion, MECR and IR re-validations, MCC and JOC.
