A typical Modular Route to acheive a JAR ATPL The box to the left shows a typical Modular Route to achieve a Joint Aviation Authorities Airline Transport Pilot Licence - a Frozen JAA ATPL - which is the licence you will need to fly as a First Officer in a modern commercial jet. On completion of your training you will have become a “low houred pilot” and you will then try to find employment as a commercial pilot, maybe even completing a Jet Orientation Course (JOC) and perhaps a type rating for the type of aircraft which you will be flying.

A full ATPL cannot be issued until you have flown a total of 1,500 hours, of which 500 must be multi-crew time in a jet or turbo-prop aircraft. Only then can the licence be “unfrozen” - hence the term “frozen” ATPL.

There are a multitude of paths to achieve an ATPL, and you should research which one best suits your personal circumstances. Cabair’s offers you a wide choice of courses delivered at various Cabair Flying Schools and affiliates throughout the UK, Spain, the USA and Canada.

You may choose to gain your commercial licence but pursue a career as a flying instructor - in which case we can offer you FI courses. Cabair also provide ground and flight training for various university degree programmes, should you wish to obtain a degree with commercial pilot training.

Whichever Cabair School or affiliate you choose, you can rest assured that the quality of training leads to the same high standard at licence issue, and will give you the experiences and skills which you will need in your future career as a pilot.
